11:18 pm
opportunity to be a kid. live in leesburg tonight, erica gonzalez, news 4. >> thanks, erica. we go to weather right now. there's a hurricane out there that could have a significant impact on our weather. >> yeah, i think it's going to have a significant impact from our area maybe up to new england. right now, you can see that this is the enhanced infrared satellite picture. you can see it's a very well defined storm. this could be strong category two, maybe category three with the pressure. but right now, it's coming in just out from the hurricane center. show you that in just a second. take a look at some of the video. out of jamaica a little earlier, sandy was slamming that island. numerous people, about 90% of jamaica without power as that storm has made its way on flu here. take a look at the latest data. the winds are up to 90 miles an hour.
11:19 pm
i think it will keep hurricane strength as it does cross cuba. that's the latest forecast keeping it as as category 1 storm. just off the miami coast. miami, maybe 50-60 mile an hour winds. not a direct hit for them, but still some impact for the miami area and portions of south florida. it moves up and then back out to sea. well, the latest models bringing it up and back in, believe it or not, as it interacts with a big area of low pressure on land. so we're going to watch this very cloesely and it's where tht interaction takes place that could bring that storm up towards our way or up towards boston. here's our latest thinking here with this storm. saturday, no problems here. i think saturday is looking like a pretty nice day with increasing clouds. biggest threat. you have a low threat from this storm and towards the carolinas and a pretty high threat along the north carolina close, especially the outerbanks.
11:20 pm
as we move on sunday, a high threat along the delmarva. if the storm is able to come in towards our area, a little bit quicker, and i think this could happen to us. we have a very high threat of wind and rain. even around the i-95 kwcorridor this area could be read. we will have low impact storms here with wind and rain. so, once again, we're going to be watching this very closely. as far as our weather is concerned today, we saw a great day. this is the biggest issue, i think, most likely along the mid at lantic in the northeast, power outages across the entire area. today, for us, we saw a high of 84 degrees. that's a record, tieing a record set back in 2001 around the region, we are extremely mild for this time of year. no worries tomorrow morning.
11:21 pm
no worries as we head into the next couple of days. temperatures about 50-60 degrees. 71 on friday. 68 on saturdays. here comes sandy sunday into monday. 53 degrees on monday, 50 on tuesday. rather windy conditions the entire time. sunday, watch out for sunday. rain would start early and it would become windy during the afternoon. the heaviest wind comes late. we want to keep you ahead of this storm. we want you to down load our nbc 4 app. keep you ahead of the storm. any watches or warnings will come right here including video that we have at nbc 4. >> and a lot could change between now and sunday. >> pretty much so, but stay with us. >> okay, doug, thank you.
